At Project Skin MD® Richmond, we recommend that for the week before your Botox treatment, you should:
For 24 to 48 hours before your appointment, you should:
These recommendations are to reduce your risk of swelling, bruising, or discomfort after your treatment. You should discuss any specific medications you’re on that may affect your treatment with your physician.
Botox treatments have very little associated downtime. Apart from a few exceptions, you can return to the majority of your regular daily activities immediately after your Botox treatment at our Richmond clinic.
After leaving your appointment, you should avoid rubbing or pressing on the treatment area for 12 hours. Potential side effects that you might experience include:
Most patients experience little to no discomfort during or after their Botox treatment due to the fine needles used. We can apply a numbing gel to your skin before your treatment, as you may experience a small pinching sensation.
While you may have minor bruising or swelling after your treatment, those are expected to go away within a few days, and you can return to your daily activities with virtually no downtime.
After your Botox treatment, you should wait between 24 and 48 hours to consume any alcoholic beverages. As alcohol is a blood thinner, it can increase the risk of swelling and bruising after your treatment. We also advise that you abstain from drinking alcohol for a week prior to your treatment.
After your Botox treatment, you should wait to exercise for at least 24 hours. Exercise raises your blood pressure, which can increase your risk of inflammation and general discomfort after your treatment.
You should wait at least 24 to 48 hours before flying after you receive Botox treatment. The pressure changes that you experience when on an airplane can make your Botox migrate to other parts of the body, so waiting before you do will give it time to settle. The longer you can wait, the better.
You should wait between 3 to 4 hours before lying down after you receive Botox treatment. If you lay down too soon after treatment, the injection may spread or migrate and cause unwanted side effects outside of the treatment area.
Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours after your Botox treatment, as foreign substances can increase the risk of infection, redness, swelling, and overall discomfort. You can, however, cleanse and wash your face during this time period.
