Sometimes, a mole falls on prime real estate and acquires the title of ‘beauty mark,’ Cindy Crawford style. Other times, a large, raised mole in an obvious, inconvenient or troublesome area queues Austin Powers: “MOLE!” That’s when mole removal by shave excision may just save the day. This simple, minimally invasive procedure can flatten raised moles on the spot in a single session, reducing their prominence and leaving you feeling more confident and comfortable in your own skin. Performed by our physicians at Project Skin MD, you can be sure that the procedure will be done with the utmost attention to detail and expertise.
Shave excisions use local anesthetic for optimal comfort. After the area is thoroughly numbed, our physicians utilize gentle strokes of a surgical blade to skillfully shave down the mole. Following light compression, a dressing may be applied and simple aftercare instructions reviewed. The treated spot will heal within 10 days to 2 weeks and may appear flat and brown or temporarily pink.
Depending on the mole, regrowth may occur over months or years. Repeat shave excisions are possible. If lingering pigmentation is bothersome, contact us to learn about our treatment options to reduce excess pigmentation or darkening.
Your physician will work with you to determine a treatment plan to address your unique skin needs.
We will then take baseline photos for your patient file. These will be used to show you your results and serve as a reference over time.
We will review our consent forms with you, making sure to answer any questions before proceeding with treatment.
