    What is Fraxel® re:store DUAL?

Project Skin MD Medical Director Dr. McGillivray was among the first physicians to offer Fraxel® treatments in Canada—the laser of choice for celebrities and global media. The Fraxel® re:store DUAL laser that we use in our Vancouver clinic is respected as one of the most effective and versatile non-ablative resurfacing laser treatments of our time, employing a patented fractionated technology that treats pigmentation, aging skin, pre-cancerous sun damage (actinic keratoses), scars, stretch marks and more. Fraxel® treatments enhance the health and beauty of skin on the face, neck, chest, hands and beyond.

    Treatment & Technology in Vancouver

As the first Canadian providers of Fraxel® laser treatments, the physicians at Project Skin MD® have developed advanced protocols for a variety of applications. These protocols are utilized worldwide for their safety and efficacy. Fraxel® employs an effective, patented fractionated resurfacing technology.

We utilize the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 Laser System which is cleared for the following indications for use:

    • Fraxel 1550nm wavelength is indicated for dermatological procedures requiring the coagulation of soft tissue; skin resurfacing procedures; treatment of dyschromia and cutaneous lesions, such as, but not limited to lentigos, solar lentigos, actinic keratosis, and melasma; and treatment of periorbital wrinkles, acne scars, and surgical scars.
    • Fraxel 1927nm wavelength is indicated for dermatological procedures requiring the coagulation of soft tissue; treatment of actinic keratosis.

Our experienced treatment providers will use a combination of these 2 wavelengths to customize a treatment to your skin condition and get you the best outcome possible.

It all starts with a simple consultation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How long is a treatment?

Fraxel® re:store DUAL treatments average about 30 to 45 minutes for the full face and might take up to an hour for other parts of the body, depending on the size, location and condition of the area to be treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. For a more comfortable experience, we apply topical anesthesia to all our patients prior to the treatment. Following the treatment you will feel the heat start to subside within the first hour.

    What makes Fraxel® technology unique?

Fraxel® re:store DUAL uses two laser wavelengths to resurface damaged skin. There are two laser treatment modes: one specifically treats concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring that are deeper in the skin layers (1550nm). The second treatment mode (1927nm) effectively targets sun spots, age spots and tone and texture, which are more superficial.

What can I expect after treatment?

Generally, patients will experience some redness for several days. As your skin heals, you may see bronzing and peeling. There is no wound care, but you should apply moisturizer and sun protection as instructed. After the healing process, you can expect:

    • Smoother, fresher and younger looking skin
    • Improved tone & texture
    • Reduced appearance of unwanted brown spots

To ensure proper skin healing, a SkinCeuticals skincare routine (Recovery Kit) will be provided to you along with clear instructions.

    When will I see results?

Your results will start unfolding immediately after your treatment. Collagen synthesis and tightening takes time, and results will continue to improve over the next 90 days. We typically like to see you for a follow-up visit after 6 weeks to assess the improvement.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone’s skin is different, but typically patients can expect great results in 4 sessions, depending on your desired outcomes. These sessions are generally spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Can I treat skin on other parts of the body?

Yes. We can treat multiple areas in a single session.
