Laser hair removal is one of the world’s most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures. At Project Skin MD, we use the best-in-class laser hair removal device, the LightSheer® DUET™. This medical-grade laser ensures optimal safety and efficacy and the ability to treat large areas (like the legs and back) and smaller, more delicate areas, all with little to no pain and in record time.
What it does.
The LightSheer DUET is the global gold-standard in medical-grade laser hair removal. It is a laser that targets the specific depth of hair follicles and the pigment within them. The pigment within the follicles will specifically absorb laser energy until it heats enough to permanently disable the follicle. The LightSheer™ DUET employs two treatment tips for optimal efficacy and comfort for both small and large areas.
What it treats.
The LightSheer™ DUET can treat any hair growth on the body as long as the targeted hair is coarse and dark enough. Laser hair removal does not work for blonde, white and red hair.
How often.
For permanent hair reduction with the LightSheer™ DUET, an average of 4-8 treatments is required at a frequency of 4-12 weeks, depending on the body area.
Prep.
Patients are asked to avoid sun exposure and self tanners as well as waxing, plucking or tweezing hair for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. We ask you to come to your appointment cleanly shaved.
Recovery.
Generally, patients will return immediately to regular activities. If there is any follicular redness or swelling, avoid friction and any exercise until it subsides. Disabled follicles will continue to expel for up to 30 days of treatment. Broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher must be worn daily.
FAQs
How long is the treatment?
Laser hair removal treatments average about 20 minutes, depending on the size and location of the area to be treated. Multiple areas can be combined and treated in the same visit.
Is there any special preparation required?
Patients are asked to avoid sun exposure as well as waxing, plucking or tweezing hair at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. We ask you to come to your appointment cleanly shaved.
Can I resume my normal activities right after?
For the most part, yes. However, it is not recommended to exercise the same day. Saunas, hot tub, hot yoga and sun exposure is not recommended in the following 7 days.
Is there any possible side effects?
Laser hair removal is a safe procedure. Redness and perifollicular edema (looks like a rash/bug bites) are common and resolve quickly. Bruising and swelling are less common but may occur and will also resolve with time.
When do the results appear, and how long do they last?
Hair may take up to 3 weeks to fall out. You will notice hair growth reduction and improvement after each treatment. Hormonal changes in the future might trigger new hair growth.
What does the procedure feel like?
Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, some patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, the treated area might show some redness, which will likely dissipate within the day.
What do our patients say?
I’ve had a really great experience and had amazing results. I was having really bad foliculitis problems that were making me really self conscious but I am feeling much better! The facility is beautiful and everyone I’ve interacted with has been amazingly gracious, kind and professional.
– Mallory
I was pleasantly surprised by my laser hair removal experience. Robyn made me feel relaxed and confident, and answered all my questions patiently. It was not painful at all. After a week I noticed a decrease in the amount and thickness of hair. I went to work that night with no redness or discomfort. It was well worth the short amount of time it took to make such a dramatic difference!
