To address pigmentation irregularities, IPL Photorejuvenation treatments apply flashes of broad-band light to the skin. The targeted colours absorb the light, vessels coagulate and pigment cells disperse. Immediately following treatment, patients may experience light redness and swelling. Over several days, irregular pigmentation can darken before the body clears the targeted cells, revealing an even complexion. Treatment sensation is likened to snaps of an elastic band with comfort interventions very rarely required. Maintenance treatments can keep progressive symptoms of rosacea at bay over the long term.
IPL Photorejuvenation can be used to treat the skin on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas on the body including arms and legs.
During a personalized assessment your treatment provider will work with you to create a treatment plan to meet your unique skin needs.
We will then take baseline photos for your patient file. These will be used to show you your results and serve as a reference over time.
We will review our consent forms with you, making sure to answer any questions before proceeding with treatment.
After initial preparation (cleansing and the use of eye protection), your treatment provider will apply a cool gel to a portion of the skin surface. The chilled IPL handpiece will be moved over the surface of the skin, with each pulse delivering a bright flash of light with an accompanying “snapping” sensation (often referred as snaps of an elastic band).
The feeling of pulsed light on your skin for the very first time can be a bit of a surprise—the initial pinching sensation causes some patients to flinch slightly! The treatment is not painful, however, patients may experience a sensation of diffused heat as the applicator glides over the skin. A smaller applicator tip is sometimes uses to treat smaller areas such as the sides/tips of nostrils.

IPL is a safe procedure. Redness, darkening of pigment, slight swelling and heat are common and resolve quickly. Bruising, blisters, and burns are less common but may occur and resolve with time.
You can expect to see a renewed complexion 10-14 days post-treatment. The benefits of IPL Photorejuvenation are long-term, however, healthy lifestyle choices and proper skincare (including daily sunscreen use) can help the longevity of your results.
